It’s going to happen….Girls Volleyball this spring!

Girls Volleyball

GREAT NEWS….through persistence and cooperation we WILL BE offering Girls Volleyball this Spring 2019. Our challenge was not to interfere with the other sport programs and we think we have figured a way to make it all work and continue to provide the opportunity for recreation volleyball for the girls of Nevada County.

The program will run a little differently. We will hold three clinics (one per grade level) after which time players will be assigned to a team if not already established on one. Clinics and games will be played on Fridays only at Nevada Union High School. Open to girls grades 4th through 6th.

Registration deadline is March 10th.

A big thanks to Chrys Dudek and the Nevada Union High School girls volleyball program for helping continue our 23 year tradition of girls volleyball.

Girls Volleyball

Girls Volleyball

**ANNOUNCEMENT Regarding Girls Volleyball** Over the summer the Nevada County schools decided to switch around their athletic schedules to run girls sports in the fall and boys in the spring. Unfortunately this change restricts recreational availability of school facilities and participants, and we will no longer be able to offer girls volleyball in the Fall as we have for the last 20 years. We hope to be able to offer girls rec volleyball in the spring, working closely with the softball league in an attempt to limit date conflicts and to provide opportunity for both sports.

This will not interfere with recreational basketball. We will launch basketball sign-ups after the Fall break.

Tyler Nielson and Justin Gardner

Our hearts are broken along with our entire community with the loss of two bright and beautiful young men. I want to repost Kelly Rhoden’s letter to NU students. The Ali Gym doors are open to anyone who needs support and comfort during this difficult time.

Good Morning Miner Families, this is Principal Kelly Rhoden.

It is with great sadness to report the loss of 2 of our students over this Spring Break. Tyler Nielson and Justin Gardner’s lives were both lost in a car accident earlier Sunday morning when a drunk driver crossed the center line and hit them head-on as they traveled with family to Pismo Beach. Tyler’s life was lost at the scene and Justin passed later at the hospital. Dawson Fay was in the same vehicle and has a broken hip but is ok.

With the help of our staff at NU and Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, we have put together a support group of counselors to help us deal with these losses for the return to school on Monday, April 2, 2018. In the meantime, I know we have groups of students that gathered at the NUHS last night and will again today. We do have staff on hand to open the Ali gym and our Crisis Team made up of school counselors and community counselors will be on site for our students, staff, and school community that need help in processing this tragedy.

This is a huge loss to our Miner family. Let us all keep the families in our hearts and thoughts as they deal with this horrific loss. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.

Kelly Rhoden, Principal
